Leeds United are evaluating the possibility of signing uncapped Senegalese midfielder Cheikou Kouyate.

The 34-year-old midfielder was out of contract at Nottingham Forest last season, while Leeds are struggling in midfield after losing Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev to injuries.

“I think it’s a professional thing to assess when signing a new player. Sometimes there are coincidences or special circumstances where we need someone at a certain time, ยูฟ่าเบท” said Leeds United manager Daniel Farke.

The 34-year-old former West ham United, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest midfielder has been without a club since leaving the City Ground earlier this summer.

That is however, only if there’s space in the club’s registered squad for the 2024-24 campaign, or they’re under the age of 21. If not, they have to wait until the next registration period to sign.

Fortunately for Leeds, they only registered a 21-man squad for the current Championship campaign, leaving four spaces for free agent signings. Kouyate, of course, is over the age of 21, but those spaces in their squad mean he’s able to sign and be registered straight away.

Kouyate has 10 years of Premier League experience, having played for West Ham, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, playing as a defensive midfielder or a central defender, and has made 92 appearances for Senegal since 2012.
